about

I aspire to be a mentally stable Bruce Wayne, or a humble Tony Stark; to become a hero in my own right by using my “super” knowledge and skills to create technology that improve lives.

I love to learn. I take every opportunity to add to my “Utility Belt” by researching new technologies and manufacturing methods. Equally, I love to teach. When the “robins” in my family want to build a self-driving car, or an elevator, I will stealthily appear. I gladly fed their curiosity by showing them the basics of sensors, actuators, programming and fabrication.

My ultimate purpose is to become a professional engineer, and leave innovative technology and knowledge for the future generations to inherit.

My wide breadth of experience in manufacturing, engineering and business operations allows me to push through that last 10% to bring out the product from the prototype. This combined with my interpersonal skills and experience in client facing roles builds team bonds and long-term business relations.

experience

  • Mechatronics Engineer / Polyga Inc.

    2022 - 2025
    • Tech lead and Product management on several major 3D Scanning/Machine Vision projects accounting for 50%-80% of company revenue.
    • Worked closely with the software team to iterate and improve 3D mesh processing and registration algorithms. Tested and pinpointed areas to optimize processing speeds.
    • Managed the development of our mesh processing software, ensuring the end results were user focused.
    • Researched patents to minimize design infringement and help clients prepare for legal battles that arise during final product stages.
    • Brought hardware manufacturing in-house and increased total company profit by 30%.
    • Played a pivotal role in prototyping the hardware and software for an intraoral dental scanner, resulting in 125% increased revenue (~ $1.5M/year) and doubling company size.
    • Improved hardware electronics design by consolidating multiple components and selecting microcontrollers less affected by chip shortages, resulting in a stabilized supply chain and reducing labor by ~67%.
    • Rewrote firmware to stabilize I2C-Serial bridge communication and add extensible GPIO access resulting in 50% higher scanner framerates and scalable access for future projects.
    • Worked with CMs to develop custom PCBs to move away from off-the-shelf components, greatly improving supply chain stability and product robustness.
    • Built strong personal relations with clients through meetings, site visits and consistently delivering better than expected results.
  • Mechanical Engineer / MistyWest

    2021 - 2022
    • Worked in R&D on multiple projects in parallel spanning broad engineering disciplines to deliver scalable product designs.
    • Performed validation testing based on research papers and client specifications to determine feasibility and scalability.
    • Utilized Python data science libraries to perform and present simulation results for microfluidic systems.
    • Prototyped the optics, mechanics and firmware for a lab-on-a-chip medical device to measure and log albumin/creatinine levels in urine.
    • Rigorously documented prototyped medical device specifications and test results to comply to ISO 13485 QMS standards to prepare for FDA 510(k) premarket clearance.
    • Successfully delivered full scale mechatronic prototypes to clients with satisfying results.
  • Machinist / Dhiman Industries Ltd.

    2005 - 2021
    • Manually and CNC machined precision parts accurately to the tight tolerance drawings.
    • Made key contributions in the fabrication, wiring and installation of new machinery used to automate the foundry line.
    • Aided in the electromechanical development of an in-house CNC lathe which is now sold to sawmills globally.
  • Electromechanical Technician / Kodak Canada ULC.

    fall 2016
    • Assembled Kodak’s Magnus Platesetter, adhering to the engineering drawing specifications.
    • Designed test equipment in SolidWorks following GD&T conventions, which effectively improved the efficiency of the optics quality control process, while maintaining revisions and BOM in SolidWorks PDM.
    • Managed the machine shop during the foreman’s absence where I sourced materials, tooling and produced custom components for internal projects.
    • Worked with my production manager to improve the assembly process through updating documentation and SOPs, executing engineering change orders where needed.

PROJECTS

  • Embedded Cosplay Suit / Club Project, Simon Fraser University

    2015 - 2017
    • Collaborated with a team of Computer Science and Engineering Students to build a Cosplay suit which incorporates embedded systems.
    • Lead the club’s electrical hardware design.
    • Programmed various microcontrollers and embedded linux SoCs, including Arduinos, Tiva C Launchpad, and the RPi.
  • CAPSTONE: Ophthalight / Simon Fraser University

    fall 2017
    • Designed and presented a prototype testbed for detecting color blindness.
    • Created a GUI in QT using C++ to run the hardware.
    • Used a MySQL database store patient information.
    • Employed OpenCV libraries to extract and study data captured by Raspberry Pi cameras.
    • Constructed an intuitive user manual for the product.
    • Prepared reports to submit to our sponsors including timeline, budget plan, technical Specs and comprehensive reports.
  • Mechatronics Design / Simon Fraser University

    fall 2016
    • Designed an Electromechanical pick and place robot.
    • Performed FEA analysis on truss structure in Solidworks.
    • Created a DC motor drive circuit to control motor speeds.
    • Soldered components to perfboard for a more robust design.
  • Digital Logic / Simon Fraser University

    fall 2016
    • Utilized a Tiva C Series Launchpad to control an LED array display and servomotors.
    • Displayed data to a PuTTY terminal via UART.
    • Constructed a circuit of shift registers and muxes to control LEDs.
    • Programmed Timers to shift data into shift registers.
